REVELATION IN SCRIPTURE

All of the following passages have the Greek noun, apokalupsis, in them, with “revelation” being the predominate translation; apokalupsis appears 18 times in the NT; unless specified differently all of the quotes are from the NKJV:

A light to bring revelation (apokalupsis) to the Gentiles (Lu. 2:32; KJV has “a light to lighten the Gentiles”; ESV has “a light for revelation to the Gentiles”);

the day of wrath and revelation (apokalupsis) of the righteous judgment of God (Rom. 2:5; ESV, “the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed”);

the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing (apokalupsis) of the sons of God (Rom. 8:19; KJV has “the manifestation”);

according to the revelation (apokalupsis) of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations (Rom. 16:25-26; ESV, “according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations”);

waiting for the revelation (apokalupsis) of our Lord Jesus Christ (I Cor. 1:7; KJV has “coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”; ESV has “the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ”);

if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation (apokalupsis), by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching (I Cor. 14:6);

Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation (apokalupsis), has an interpretation (I Cor. 14:26);

I will come to visions and revelations (apokalupsis) of the Lord (II Cor. 12:1);

lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations (apokalupsis) (II Cor. 12:7);

For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation (apokalupsis) of Jesus Christ (Gal. 1:12; ESV, “I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ”);

I went up by revelation (apokalupsis) and communicated to them (Gal. 2:2; ESV, “I went up because of a revelation and set before them”);

that the God . . . may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation (apokalupsis) in the knowledge of Him (Eph. 1:17; ESV, “that God . . . may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him);

how that by revelation (apokalupsis) He made know to me the mystery (Eph. 3:3; ESV, “how the mystery was made known to me by revelation”;

when the Lord Jesus is revealed (apokalupsis) from heaven (II Thess. 1:7l KJV has “when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed”);

that the genuineness of your faith . . . may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation (apokalupsis) of Jesus Christ (I Pet. 1:7; KJV has “at the appearing of Jesus Christ”);

rest full upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation (apokalupsis) of Jesus Christ (I Pet. 1:13);

when His glory is revealed (apokalupsis) (I Pet. 4:13; KJV has “when his glory shall be revealed”);

The revelation (apokalupsis) of Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1).

All of the following passages have the Greek verb, apokaluptō, in them, with “reveal” being the predominate translation; apokaluptō appears 26 times in the NT; unless specified differently all of the quotes are from the NKJV:

For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed (apokaluptō), and hidden that will not be known (Matt. 10:26);

You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed (apokaluptō) them to babes (Matt. 11:25; see: Lu. 10:21);

and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal (apokaluptō) Him (Matt. 11:27; see: Lu. 10:22);

flesh and blood has not revealed (apokaluptō) this to you, but My Father who is in heaven (Matt. 16:17);

that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed (apokaluptō) (Lu. 2:35);

there is nothing covered that will not be revealed (apokaluptō), nor hidden that will not be known (Lu. 12:2);

Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed (apokaluptō) (Lu. 17:30);

to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed ((apokaluptō)  (Jo 12:38);

in it the righteousness of God is revealed (apokaluptō) from faith to faith (Rom. 1:17);

For the wrath of God is revealed ((apokaluptō) from heaven against all ungodliness (Rom. 1:18)

 the glory which shall be revealed (apokaluptō) in us (Rom. 8:18);

But God has revealed (apokaluptō) them to us by His Spirit (I Cor. 2:10);

For the day will declare it, because it will be revealed (apokaluptō) by fire (I Cor. 3:13);

But if anything is revealed (apokaluptō) to another who sits by, let the first keep silent (I Cor. 14:30);

But when it pleased God . . . to reveal (apokaluptō) His Son in me (Gal. 1:16);

kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed (apokaluptō) (Gal. 3:23);

which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed (apokaluptō) by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets (Eph. 3:5);

God will reveal (apokaluptō) even this to you (Phil. 3:15);

the man of sin is revealed (apokaluptō), the son of perdition (II Thess. 2:3);

that he may be revealed (apokaluptō) in his own time (II Thess. 2:6);

and then the lawless one will be revealed (apokaluptō) (II Thess. 2:8);

who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed (apokaluptō) in the last time (I Pet. 1:5);

to them it was revealed (apokaluptō) that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported (I Pet. 1:12);

I who am . . . a partaker of the glory that will be revealed (apokaluptō) (I Pet. 5:1).
