PROPHETS

ISAIAH

    6:1     “I saw YHWH sitting on a throne, high and lifted up”
    7:14    “Therefore YHWH Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive
               and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel”
    7:17    “YHWH will bring the king of Assyria upon you and your people”
    9:11-12“Therefore YHWH shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and spur his
               enemies on, the Syrians before and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour
               Israel with an open mouth”
    10:5    “Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger and the staff in whose hand is indignation”  
    10:11  “As I have done to Samaria and her idols, shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols”
    10:12  “I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his
               haughty looks”
    13:17  “Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them”
    14:1    “For YHWH will have mercy on Jacob, and will still choose Israel, and settle them
               in their own land”
    14:3    “It shall come to pass in the day YHWH gives you rest from your sorrow,
               and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve”
    14:22  “‘I will rise up against them,’ says YHWH of hosts, ‘and cut off from Babylon
               the name and remnant, and offspring and posterity’”
    14:27  “For YHWH of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out
               and who will turn it back?”
    16:14  “But now YHWH has spoken, saying, ‘Within three years . . . the glory of Moab
               will be despised with all that great multitude’”
    19:4    “and the Egyptians I will give into the hand of a cruel master”
    25:8    “He will swallow up death forever, and YHWH God will wipe away tears from all faces;
               the rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth”
    26:12  “YHWH, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our works in us”
    28:16  “I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure
               foundation”
    33:5    “YHWH is exalted, for He dwells on high”
    33:17  “your eyes will see the King in His beauty”
    37:7    “Surely I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall hear a rumor and return
               to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land”
    37:33  “He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with
               shield, nor build a siege mound against it”
    37:35  “For I will defend this city, to save it”
    37:36  “Then the angel of YHWH went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one
               hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there
               were the corpses—all dead”
    38:6    “I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend
               this city”
    40:15  “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust

    40:26  “Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these things, who brings out
               their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might
               and the strength of His power; not one is missing”
    40:28  “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, YHWH,
               the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary”
    41:8-9 “But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of
               Abraham My friend. You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called
               from its farthest regions and said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you
               and have not cast you away’”
    41:10  “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,
               yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”
    41:25  “I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come”
    42:9    “behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they
               spring forth I tell you of them”
    43:1    “But now, thus says YHWH, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O
               Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are
               mine’”
    44:1    “Yet hear me now, O Jacob My servant, and Israel who I have chosen”
    44:7    “And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me,
               since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come,
               let them show these to them”
    44:25  “Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, and drives diviners mad; who turns wise men
               backward, and makes their knowledge foolishness”
    44:28  “Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, and he shall perform all My pleasure,
               saying to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be built,’ and to the temple, ‘Your foundation
               shall be laid’”
    45:1    “Thus says YHWH to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held—to subdue
               nations before him and loose the armor of kings, to open before him the double doors,
               so that the gates will not be shut”
    45:4-7 “For Jacob My servant’s sake, and Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name;
               I have named you, though you have not known Me. I am YHWH, and there is no other;
               There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, that they
               may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none besides Me. I am
               YHWH, and there is no other; I form the light and create darkness, I make peace
               and create calamity; I, YHWH, do all these things” (“calamity” is “disaster” in NIV
              and “evil” in KJV)
    45:9    “Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds
               of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’”
    46:9-11“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God,
               and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and
               from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
               and I will do all My pleasure,’ calling a bird of prey from the east, the man
               who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also
               bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it"
    48:3    “I have declared the former things from the beginning; they went forth from My mouth,
               and I caused them to hear it. Suddenly I did them and they came to pass”
    48:13  “Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand
               has stretched out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand up together”
    48:17  “I am YHWH your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you
               should go”
    55:8-9 “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says YHWH.
               ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
               and My thoughts than your thoughts’”
    55:11  “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void,
               but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which
               I sent it”
    63:17  “YHWH, why have You made us stray from Your ways and hardened our heart
               from Your fear”
    64:8    “But now I Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter;
               and all we are the work of Your hand”
    66:18  “I know their works and their thoughts”

JEREMIAH

    1:5     “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you;
               I ordained you a prophet to the nations”
    1:9     “Then YHWH put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and YHWH said to me:
               ‘Behold, I have put My words in your mouth’”
    4:6     “I will bring disaster from the north, and great destruction”
    4:27    “The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end”
    5:15    “Behold, I will bring a nation against you from afar . . . it is a mighty nation, it is an
               ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know”
    5:17    “they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig
               trees; they shall destroy your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword”
    7:34    “I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the
               voice of mirth and the voice of gladness”
    9:16    “I will scatter them also among the Gentiles . . . I will send a sword after them until I
               have consumed them”
    10:13  “He causes vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain,
               He brings the wind out of His treasuries”
    10:23  “O Lord I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his
               own steps”
    11:11  “I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to escape; though they
               cry out to Me, I will not listen to them”
    11:23  “I will bring catastrophe on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their punishment”
    13:14  “I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together . . . I will
               not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them”
    14:12  “I will consume them by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence”
    18:11  “I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you”
    20:4    “I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon”
    23:5    “Behold, the days are coming . . . that I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
               a King shall reign and prosper and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth”
    25:11  “And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall
               serve the king of Babylon seventy years”
    25:12  “when seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,
               the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity”
    27:5    “I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by My great
               power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper
               to Me”
    30:11  “Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not
               make a complete end of you”
    31:28  “as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down,
               to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant”
    32:27  “I am YHWH, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”
    45:4    “what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that
               is, this whole land”
    49:37  “I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies and before those who seek
               their life. I will bring disaster upon them, My fierce anger . . . and I will send
               the sword after them until I have consumed them”

LAMENTATIONS

    1:12    “is any sorrow like my sorrow, which has been brought on me, which YHWH has
               inflicted in the day of His fierce anger”
    2:2     “YHWH has swallowed up and has not pitied all the dwelling places of Jacob”
    2:5     “YHWH was like an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel, He has swallowed up
               all her palaces; He has destroyed her strongholds, and has increased mourning
               and lamentation in the daughter of Judah”
    2:8     “YHWH has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion”
    2:17    “YHWH has done what He purposed; He has fulfilled His word which He commanded
               in days of old. He has thrown down and has not pitied, and He has caused an enemy
               to rejoice over you; He has exalted the horn of your  adversaries”
    3:32    “though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion”
    3:37-38“Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when YHWH has not commanded it?
               Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that woe and well-being proceed?”
    4:16    “the face of YHWH scattered them”
    5:21    “Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored”

EZEKIEL

    1:3     “the hand of YHWH was upon him there”
    2:1     “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you”
    2:2     “the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me”
    2:3     “I am sending you to the children of Israel”
    3:12    “the Spirit lifted me up”
    3:17    “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore
              hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me”
    3:22    “the hand of YHWH was upon me there, and He said to me”
    3:24    “the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and spoke with me and said to me”
    4:16    “I will cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem”
    5:2     “I will draw out a sword after them”
    5:11    “I will also diminish you; My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity”
    5:12    “One-third of you shall die of the pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst;
               and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third
               to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them”
    6:3     “I will bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places”
    8:27    “I will do to them according to their way”
    9:10    “My eyes will neither spare, nor will I have pity, but I will recompense their deeds
               on their own head”
    11:19  “I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony
               heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh”
    13:13  “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain
               in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it”
    14:9    “if the prophet is induced to speak anything, I YHWH have induced that prophet”
    14:22  “concerning the disaster that I have brought upon Jerusalem”
    15:8    “I will make the land desolate”
    20:25  “I also gave them up to statutes that were not good, and judgments by which they
               could not live”
    21:31  “I will pour out My indignation on you; I will blow against you with the fire of My wrath,
               and deliver you into the hands of brutal men who are skillful to destroy”
    24:14  “I, YHWH, have spoken it; it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not hold back,
               nor will I spare, nor will I relent”
    29:3    “Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt”
    29:13  “At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom
               they were scattered”

DANIEL

    1:9     “God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs”
    1:17    “God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom”
    2:21-22“He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings;
               He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.
               He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness,
               and light dwells with Him”
    4:17    “the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets
               over it the lowest of men”
    4:25    “till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it
               to whomever He chooses”
    4:32    “until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it
               to whomever He chooses”
    4:35    “He does according to His will in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants
               of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘what have you done’”
    5:21    “till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints
               over it whomever He chooses”
    6:26    “His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed. And His dominion shall endure
               to the end”
    6:27    “He works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth”
    7:9     “I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated . . . His
               throne was a fiery flame”

AMOS

    3:2     “You only have I known of all the families of the earth”
    3:6     “if there is a calamity in the city, will not YHWH have done it”
    4:7-10“I also withheld rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. I made
               it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city . . . so two or three cities wandered
               to another city to drink water . . . I blasted you with blight and  mildew. When your
               gardens increased . . . the locust devoured them . . . I sent among you a plague . . .
               your young men I killed with a sword . . . I made the stench of your camps come up
               into your nostrils”
    6:8     “I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore I will deliver up the city and
               all that is in it”
    6:11    “YHWH gives a command: He will break the great house into bits and the little house
               into pieces”
    6:14    “I will raise up a nation against you . . . and they will afflict you”

OBADIAH

    v. 2     “I will make you small among the nations”
    v. 4     “though you set you nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down”
    v. 8     “will I not in that day . . . destroy the wise men from Edom”
    v. 18   “no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, for YHWH has spoken”

JONAH

    1:14    “You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You”
    1:17    “YHWH prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah”
    2:3     “You cast me into the deep”
    2:6     “You brought up my life from the pit”
    2:10    “YHWH spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land”
    4:6     “YHWH God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah”
    4:7     “God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered”
    4:8     “God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head”

MICAH

    2:3     “against this family I am devising disaster from which you cannot remove your necks”
    4:6     “I will assemble the lame, I will gather the outcast and those whom I have afflicted”
    4:10    “And to Babylon you shall go. There you shall be delivered; there YHWH will redeem
               you from the hand of your enemies”
    6:13    “I will also make you sick by striking you, by making you desolate because of your sins.
               You shall eat, but not be satisfied; hunger shall be in your midst”

NAHUM

    2:13    “I am against you . . . I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour
               your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice
              of your messengers shall be heard no more”
    3:5     “I am against you . . . I will lift your skirts over your face, I will show the nations your
               nakedness and the kingdoms your shame”

HABAKKUK

    1:5-6  “I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.
               For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, a bitter and hasty nation . . .
               to possess dwelling
              places that are not theirs”
    1:12     “YHWH, You have appointed them for judgment”
    3:6     “He stood and measured the earth; He looked and startled the nations”

ZEPHANIAH

    1:4     “I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem”
    2:9     “as I live . . . surely Moab shall be like Sodom and the people of Ammon like Gomorrah”
    2:12    “You Ethiopians also, You shall be slain by My sword”
    3:8     “Therefore wait for Me . . . until the day I rise up for plunder; My determination is to
               gather the nations to My assembly of kingdoms, to pour on them My indignation,
               all My fierce anger”
    3:20    “I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I return
               your captives before your eyes”


HAGGAI

    1:14    “So YHWH stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel . . . and the spirit of Joshua . . . and
               the spirit of all the remnant . . . and they came and worked on the house of YHWH”
    2:8     “the silver is Mine and the gold is Mine”
    2:21-22“I will shake heaven and earth. I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy
               the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots and  those who ride
               in them”

ZECHARIAH

    1:6     “Just as YHWH of hosts determined to do to us, according to our ways and
               according to our deeds, so He has dealt with us”
    1:16    “I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy; My house shall be built in it”
    4:9     “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hand shall also
               finish it”
    8:1     “I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; with great fervor I am zealous for her”
    8:7-8  “I will save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west;
               I will bring them back, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. They shall
               be My people and I will be their God”
    8:15    “I am determined to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah”
    12:1    “Thus says YHWH, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth,
               and forms the spirit of man within him”

MALACHI

    1:2-3  “Yet Jacob I have loved; but Esau I have hated, and laid waste his mountains and his
               heritage for the jackals of the wilderness”
    3:1     “Behold, I send My messenger and he will prepare the way before Me”
    3:6     “For I am YHWH, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob”
    4:5     “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful
              day of YHWH”
